Heritage Trails

I have been involved in researching and writing four heritage trails, my first was the Merchant City Kids Trail for Glasgow City Heritage Trust.

I have researched and written three heritage trails at Stirling City Heritage Trust alongside my colleagues:

  • Stirling Family Heritage Trail, a trail of Stirling city centre charmingly designed for young people and  illustrated by local artist David Galletly.

  • McLuckie & Walker and John Allan: The Men Who Built Stirling this trail celebrates the work of these important Stirling architects.

  • Who Built Stirling? a heritage map which explores the various architects of the city centre.

Dementia & Heritage

Whilst working at Stirling City Heritage Trust as the Grants & Outreach Officer, I am immensely proud to have produced two resources for people with a Dementia diagnosis; a Reminiscence Box focussing on Stirling's heritage, and an Accessible Publication celebrating Stirling's historic built environment. Both of  these resources have been widely distributed across the Stirling Local Authority Area.

You can find out more about the Accessible Publication, 20 Great Buildings of Stirling and the Stirling Heritage Reminiscence Box here.

The History Girls Scotland

Dr Karen Mailley and I started our History Girls Scotland blog in

2014 after meeting at work in 2013, and ten years later we're still best friends. We started the History Girls Scotland project as a creative outlet and this decision has led to us working on a variety of exciting projects, from TV and Radio broadcasting, to giving sold-out Door's Open Day Lectures and  being invited to speak at Glasgow City Chambers.

You can read the archived blog posts written by myself and Karen, as well as some excellent guests, on The History Girls Scotland website.

Exhibitions

My first temporary exhibition was produced in 2014, as part of my internship at Glasgow City Heritage Trust; Glasgow’s Victorian & Edwardian Swimming Baths. In 2015, I created another temporary exhibition on stained glass in Glasgow as part of a project in collaboration with the Scottish Stained Glass Trust and with GCHT; Glasgow's Stained Glass: Colour & Light

I  have researched and written two exhibitions at Stirling City Heritage Trust  with my colleagues. The first explored the life and works of local architects McLuckie & Walker who designed over 200 buildings in Stirling; McLuckie & Walker: The Men Who Built Stirling. This temporary exhibition was displayed in Made In Stirling in 2021 and The Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum in 2022. You can click on the link above to visit the online version of the exhibition.

The second was 'Avenues to the Past: Stirling’s Historic Streets', which celebrated the Scottish building conservation movement and Stirling’s Conservation Areas. This temporary exhibition as was displayed in Made In Stirling in 2022.
